Westport Property are a chartered surveyor and agency based in Dundee, specialising in the management of both commercial and student residential properties. The team at the Scottish company pride themselves on offering the great service for tenants that you’d expect from a larger corporate firm, but with the personalised, one-to-one touch that smaller businesses offer.

The problem

Westport Property, like businesses across the world for most of 2020 and 2021, were affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. It had traditionally been an office-based company, but the pandemic forced everyone into unfamiliar remote working conditions.

"When we were required to work remotely during COVID, we needed a central place to deposit information and collaborate. Before then, the pandemic resulted in lots of difficult conversations with tenants at the time".

Director and experienced chartered surveyor, Adam Hutcheson, quickly recognised that the challenging circumstances were proving detrimental to the business. With no central location for communications that was optimised for home working, maintaining high quality relations with clients and tenants began to deteriorate.

With many restrictions still in place in early-2021, Adam and his team decided that a new long-term solution was required. 

The Solution

After starting with his team in monday.com, Adam saw immediate results that helped bridge many of the silos that the pandemic introduced. The improvements were obvious. 

He also recognised that there were ways that the product could be optimised for the business, but at time, they simply didn’t possess the in-house expertise to bring the upgrades they wanted.

"monday.com's partner database allowed us to make contact with enable, and from there we developed a relationship. Initially we asked for help on small matters, but we later realised the benefits of using a partner company to develop the software and design it for what we needed to do".

After finding enable.services through monday.com’s partner directory, Westport Property began working with our resident monday.com integration expert, Alex. After taking the time to understand the business, scoping its needs and implementing the initial improvements without interrupting existing operations, Alex turned the product used initially to help with remote working during the pandemic into an integral cog in Westport’s technology stack.

During our sit down interview, Adam noted two important factors that elevated enable over technology companies that he had previously worked with.

Firstly, we understand that the value of our professional services is only as good as our ability to confidently explain the benefits of the work to people of all technical abilities. We never assume technical knowledge of a product, and believe that a solution is not a solution if our client cannot see it. 

In this instance, Alex ensured that Adam, a self-professed non-technical user, fully understood the benefits of the work to the business for full confidence at the commitment stage. 

Secondly, our communications, whether that was from Alex or Account Manager James, were built on the foundational knowledge of the business and the industry. While enable isn’t a partner specific to property management, enable’s team see great value in understanding why decisions are made by businesses to introduce monday.com into a workflow, and work together on how to best utilise that knowledge. 

For Adam, James’ insight into the property industry was a huge benefit to that understanding.

As a result, Westport Properties, initially looking for a partner for minor improvements, continue to work with and use enable’s consultancy as guidance for their next chapter.
